Practicing in the fields of social work, behavioral health, and mind-body wellness since 1997, Diana Baker, MSW, works with clients of all ages and in all stages of their personal and professional lives. Previously serving as an advocate for children and their families through the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program, then as a school-based mental health counselor for elementary, middle, and high school students, Diana has an affinity for working with children, teens, and “adult children,” helping to build confident children and strong families in which each family member can reach his or her highest potential.

A little bit more about me…

Graduating from Florida State University in 1997, with a degree in neuroscience and the desire to be a voice for those who were not being heard,  I entered into the field of social work at the age of twenty-three and have been working in various capacities in the field ever since.

Growing up with a parent who experienced mental health issues, I understood all too well the toll it takes on a child. As a child advocate, I intended to be a voice for children who did not have one, as I wished someone had been for me.

My career began in behavioral health care for children and adolescents, then as a child abuse investigator and case manager for the Department of Children and Families. I hit my stride as a coordinator for the Guardian ad Litem Program, a volunteer-based organization which recruits and trains child advocates from the surrounding community to represent children residing in foster care. With a passion for advocacy, I increased volunteer numbers by over 100 percent and represented over 350 children in dependency hearings during my time with GAL.

After becoming a Mom myself, I took a break from working full-time in child advocacy to spend time enjoying my sweet son. So, for a while, I became a full-time mom and a part-time social worker, instead of the other way around.

Returning to graduate school in 2014, I completed my clinical social work degree specializing in mental health counseling for children, teens, and “adult children,” those of us who are working to heal childhood wounds in order to be the best parents, partners, employees, and friends we can be.

Now, instead of focusing solely on child advocacy, I help children and their parents from all walks of life feel, function, and communicate better; teaching them the skills they need to access their own resiliency and strength, empowering them to be their own best advocates.
